Since 1999 Tarheel Taxidermy
Services has been preparing capes and hides to be tanned. It is a company that
works closely with Carolina Fur Dressing
so taxidermists can send in frozen skins and receive them back tanned. Capes are
received frozen at Tarheel Taxidermy Services then the eyes, nostrils, and lips
are split, ears are turned, the skin is then salted, fleshed, salted a second
time then dried. After that, the skin is then ready to be tanned. It can be
tanned at Carolina Fur Dressing
or shipped back to the customer.
We also remove skulls and foot bones, plus flesh and salt-dry body hides.
Blade grinding services also available.

This past season I sent Tarheel Services
30 raw frozen capes for skinning and tanning. There service was
excellent. I now simply freeze the capes after removal from the
skull and ship them. They were returned tanned and ready to
prepare for mounting. I highly recommend this service to anyone. |
